VoIP for schools – how you can communicate more effectively

Did you know that we have more than 25 years of experience working with schools? So we do understand the education sector! And we’re confident that we can make your life easier, too.

Is your current telephone system still working for you? Can the system cope with fluctuations in demand – for example, when several parents are calling in at the beginning of a school day?

We’d love to explain a little as to why VoIP is beneficial for schools.

A VoIP reminder
VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) is a communications service that allows users to make calls using the internet rather than the traditional copper phone lines. It’s a lot cheaper than using traditional PSTN or ISDN lines and it’s incredibly reliable if you have good connectivity.

Some schools have already started to migrate to VoIP because of the flexibility it provides, its ability to integrate with existing and new technologies and the fact that you’re not hit with a hefty phone bill each month.

Why are schools moving over to VoIP?

Reduce Costs
VoIP is overall a cheaper phone system than a traditional one. Moving two systems into one and not needing as many wires, frees up the budget for schools and trusts to invest more into other areas to benefit a pupil’s school experience. Most VoIP phone systems are based on paying a monthly fixed fee which means no nasty surprises!

Flexibility
A VoIP system is really flexible. It’s easy for a school to set up a new extension and will only take a couple of minutes. All you need is a network access point and an IP phone. This then allows the integration of voice, video, chat, and text and enables interactive conferencing. Super useful for remote learning, accessing live education events and collaboration projects.

VoIP can be accessed by all school staff and pupils if required from a desk phone or anywhere with an internet connection, from multiple devices (tablets, laptops, smartphones). New users and numbers can be added really easily too.

Accessibility
Teachers can access their VoIP phone system in any location, listen to voicemails, and reply to urgent matters on the go having a positive impact on student safety and educational experience. Security
Cloud VoIP phone systems check for vulnerabilities and implement high levels of cyber security to protect schools from the most common threats, i.e. fraud, spoofing and phishing.

Improved quality of education
Strong communication provides a thriving learning environment. VoIP will improve communications with teachers, students, and parents helping schools build valuable relationships and access more resources to improve the school’s academic success.

BT to switch off traditional phone systems 2025
A timely reminder that BT has announced they plan to reroute calls over the internet (IP/ Internet Protocol) and switch off traditional Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) and Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) by 2025.

Therefore, it makes sense for schools to migrate now and stay ahead of the curve!
