What would your organisation do if the power went down?

Electricity – it’s something we all rely on day after day. But what would happen to your business, school or organisation if it were to be without power for a period of time?

No phones, no calls, no communication.

How would that affect your organisation? What would the impact be?

If these are questions that you’ve never asked before then it’s important to give them some consideration. While we often think of a loss of power as emanating from a power-cut due to severe weather or as the result of pre-scheduled maintenance from your power provider, there is a wide and broad range of issues that can affect the power to your office and your phones.

The one thing they all have in common is that they compromise your ability to communicate and operate efficiently.

So what is the answer? It’s called an Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS) and, in a nutshell, it ensures that your business can continue to operate and be unaffected by the following:

  1. Power failure
  2. Power sags
  3. Power surge
  4. Brownouts
  5. High Voltage Spikes
  6. Switching transients
  7. Line noise
  8. Frequency variations
  9. Harmonic distortions

Our packages

We work with the industry leading CentraUPS to offer a number of packages, depending on the level of protection your business requires against the possible impact of the nine areas mentioned, as follows:

  1. The Bronze Package – Covering areas 1-3
  2. The Silver Package – Covering areas 1-5
  3. The Gold Package – Covering areas 1-9

Our Advice

Our advice to all businesses is that you need a package – it’s just a case of which one works and fits best with your organisation’s needs. It’s a case of weighing up the cost of the unit against the potential cost if disaster strikes. This includes the costs of fixing any corruption and damage caused to equipment, as well as the cost of being unable to make or take calls during the period of time that power is down.

Not all UPS’ are the same!

Many manufacturers offer line-interactive UPS systems which have a transfer time (typically 5-10 milliseconds) between the electrical supply cutting out and the battery system stepping in to support the load. This break can cause long-lasting damage to sensitive equipment such as telephone systems. With the UPS from Equations, for as long as there is charge in the battery, there is no break in supply, keeping equipment safe from power loss, spikes and surges.
